First aid is the initial care you give to your pet, to keep them comfortable and safe while you identify the problem and decide what action needs to be taken.

Vets are professionals and provide the best care, they have the advanced knowledge and equipment to treat your pet to the best of their ability. When you first get an animal, register them with your local vet. They will keep a record of your pet's treatments and vaccinations which will make it much easier for them to deal with your pet in an emergency.

Vets can be frightening places for you and your pet, so getting to know them will make it easier and less stressful.

In an emergency, you need to call the vet as soon as possible. Save the number on your mobile phone, so you have it on hand if you need it. If it's serious, the vets can prepare for your arrival and speed up treatment when you arrive. They can also give you more advice over the phone on the immediate care you should give. It may be that you need to call the vet out to visit you. If the vet is visiting you, make sure they have the correct address and look out for them when they arrive.
